Set in a once-great kingdom that has fallen to conquest, The Lost Healer follows the daring Princess Kiva on her search for a lost relic known as the Healer.
When Princess Kiva was only a child, she watched in terror as her homeland of Nevaer was invaded by the Alkynite empire. It happened only months after the mysterious assassination of Kiva’s father. A wise and beloved ruler, the king was murdered while searching for an ancient relic known as the Healer. According to Nevaerian prophecy, if the Healer is found, it will mark the beginning of an eternal peace led by the divine Craftsman who made all things.
Twelve years later, the now-grown Kiva longs to save her people by finishing what her father started. But many obstacles lie before her. The Alkynites rule with an iron fist, ready to execute anyone who seeks the Healer. And Kiva’s people, once strong believers in the prophecy, have largely abandoned their hope. Even Prince Rian—Kiva’s beloved brother—has lost the will to oppose their enemy. And so Kiva, armed with nothing but her faith, must go on the quest by herself. As she braves the journey, she faces ruthless enemies but also inspires hope in others…including a knight from the opposing ranks.
The Lost Healer is a fantasy adventure that reflects biblical themes through its narrative. The idea for the series began as a desire to explore the strength of familial love and the human longing for something beyond this life. Each character represents a different stage of the faith journey: the faithful follower who acts bravely on their belief and inspires others, even when persecution arises (Matthew 5:14-16); the conformed believer who struggles with doubt and is afraid to commit fully to their beliefs (Romans 12:2); and the seeker who, while not yet a follower, is increasingly open to exploring the truth (Mark 12:34). The initial proof of concept provides a glimpse into what is envisioned as an expansive fantasy saga told over multiple seasons.
The Characters
Princess Kiva
A spirited princess whose kingdom was conquered by the Alkynite empire when she was only a child. Before the invasion, Kiva’s father died searching for the Healer, and after years of living under enemy occupation, Kiva’s mother died as well. With no family left except her brother Rian, Kiva seeks to finish what their father started and save the kingdom.
Prince Rian
The older brother of Princess Kiva. Scarred by the death of his parents, Rian seeks to protect his sister and their kingdom by appeasing the Alkynite empire. He is a man caught between two identities—the powerful king he fears he can never be and the submissive king he feels he must be. How will he react when Kiva takes up the same quest that killed their father?
General Graeme
General Graeme is a ruthless Alkynite general tasked with patrolling the woods outside Rian and Kiva’s kingdom. When he discovers that Kiva is searching for the Healer, he moves swiftly to keep her from spreading hope to her people.
Arran
A young, inexperienced Alkynite soldier. He repeatedly has chances to capture or kill Kiva but spares her for the sake of his conscience. Though he fights to keep his shifting loyalties a secret from General Graeme, Arran knows he will eventually be forced to openly choose a side.
Director’s Statement
Fantasy has always been one of my favorite genres. It simultaneously provides an escape from reality and a chance to explore the very real struggle between good and evil—a struggle in which we all, to some extent, must participate. In the spirit of Narnia and Lord of the Rings, The Lost Healer is crafted around biblical themes of persevering against insurmountable odds and fighting for truth in a world that embraces lies.
The story was birthed from many questions that have arisen in my own life, such as how to share difficult truths with people you love.
This is the struggle faced by Princess Kiva as she wrestles with how to tell her brother about her quest for the Healer. Yet even as Kiva feels alone in the journey, she unknowingly sparks hope in others.
This storyline reflects how you and I can make an impact on those around us without even knowing it.
My mission as a filmmaker is to tell stories that explore biblical themes through well-crafted narratives. Most of us can relate to the experience of leaving a movie theater (especially as a child) and feeling overwhelmed by the sensation of having journeyed into a larger world.
I believe this is because, as image bearers of God, we intrinsically seek something beyond ourselves with which to connect for meaning and growth. Simply put, we long for more than what this world can give us. My hope is that The Lost Healer will both transport viewers to an exciting new world and inspire them to navigate the struggles in this one.
